Beginning his journey from a Non-descript village Palia near Fatehabad, Agra as an ardent reader young Major General Purushottam Dutta use to cycle 30 km to Agra regularly just to have a chance to read an English newspaper
His hard work inspired his mother that one day his son would join UPSRTC as a conductor, oblivious to his son’s dream to change to course of his family and then came an opportunity to join forces. He joined as an Airmen in Indian Air Force, and then joined as Officer in the Indian Army through emergency commission. Post the 1965 War he again cleared the SSB for permanent commission. During his service he also cleared the IAS exam but chose to remain in the Indian Army as an officer. General Dutta was a war veteran from 1962 onwards and took part in all operations /war fought by Indian Armed Forces up to 2001, before hanging up his uniform after an extremely meritorious service.
During his service he guided all his siblings and their children to join the Armed Force. Hence etched the family name in Limca Book of records as a largest family to be in service as Officers. Post superannuation he continued guiding hundreds of aspirants to join the Armed Forces.
As the fate would have it on 27 April 2021. In the cruel hands of COVID-19 he breathed his last at MH Agra leaving behind the legacy unparalleled in the annals of city Agra.
